The Exodus Web3 Wallet® || Browser Extension® lets you connect securely to decentralized applications (dApps) directly from your browser. It provides a lightweight interface to manage cryptocurrencies, sign transactions, and interact with Web3 services without exposing private keys to websites.

This guide walks you through installation, first-time setup, basic usage, and important security practices so you can begin using Web3 quickly and safely.

1. Install the Exodus Web3 Wallet® || Browser Extension®

1. Open your preferred browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave, or Firefox recommended).
2. Visit the official Exodus extension page (verify the domain carefully) and click Install / Add to Browser.
3. After installation, pin the Exodus icon to your toolbar for easy access.

Tip: Always confirm the extension publisher is "Exodus" and check reviews & install counts when available to avoid copycat extensions.

2. First-time setup & recovery

Open the extension and choose Create new wallet (or Restore wallet if you already have an Exodus mobile/desktop wallet). Follow the on-screen prompts to create a secure password.

• Write down the 12- or 24-word recovery phrase exactly as shown. Keep it offline — never store it as plain text on your computer or cloud drives.
• Confirm the phrase when prompted to complete setup.
• Enable a strong password and consider adding biometric unlock if your browser/device supports it.

Your recovery phrase is the ultimate backup — if you lose it, Exodus cannot restore your funds.

3. Connect to a dApp

When a website requests wallet access, a popup from the Exodus extension will appear asking you to approve the connection and select which account/address to expose.

1. Review the dApp origin (domain) in the connect window.
2. Limit permissions: connect only the addresses required and avoid giving unlimited spending approvals.
3. When signing transactions, confirm amounts and destination addresses carefully before approving.

Consider using separate accounts for different dApps to reduce privacy leakage and limit the blast radius of approvals.

4. Send & receive crypto

Use the extension to copy addresses, view QR codes, and broadcast transactions. Always double-check clipboard contents before pasting a wallet address — clipboard hijacking malware can silently replace copied addresses.

• To receive: copy your deposit address from the extension and paste it into the sender app. Verify the first/last 4 characters.
• To send: enter the recipient address, network, and amount — review gas/fee estimates before confirming.

5. Security best practices

• Never share your recovery phrase, private keys, or password.
• Use hardware wallets for high-value holdings and connect through Exodus when supported for air-gapped signing.
• Keep your browser, OS, and extension up to date to receive the latest security patches.
• Avoid approving smart contract transactions that request unlimited token allowances; use revocation tools if needed.
• Consider a dedicated browser profile or isolated OS environment for your Web3 activities.
